So maybe I have just been to busy...

Faithful readers...one of you has informed me that it has been way to long since I updated my blog so here you go. Just for your information maybe I have been way to busy to do that in 11 days. So last time I blogged it was a major milestone when Imade it out of my house to go through a drive-thru and get dinner. Well let me just say that many many major milestones have happened since then. First of all not only have I been out of the house I have officially been in to eat at Chili's and Applebees. I also went to Barnes and Noble the other day to get the cutest baby on earth a Christmas present. That's right I went in. Tomorrow I am going to be discharged from PT. That just means I am on my own to do exercises. I am walking much better and the PT has gotten much much easier. This Friday I am coordinating the student teacher going away party so I will be returning to Chili's. My mom and I also had a visit from the Saturday Lunch Bunch for a Christmas Extravaganza. It was so much fun and we had many great moments like realizing that one of the reindeer is not named Dodson. Keep reading and I will keep updating but I am much more active these days so it takes several days to get the info to you. Have a great day and look for an update soon.

New Milestone in Recovery

Physical Therapy is going good but yesterday after being in the house for 4 straight days my mom and I decided to venture out. Yes that is right we ventured out of the house. We weren't sure how that was going to since we hadn't been out since monday when I got my staples removed and my dad was here then. So we put our shoes on and headed out. It worked. We went to Walgreens, Panda Express, and Sonic. It was so good to see the outside world. My mom laughed at me because I was so excited to see everything. I am currently according to the home health agency who does my PT classified as Homebound. That's right I am homebound. Oh well we made it out which is a big step. The next big step to accomplish is going into a restaurant rather than just a drive thru. Have a great day and I will update again soon.

Your kidding me right?

Ok so the first day of therapy I was feeling like a champ because I made it through without to many issues. On day 2 we stepped it up. We continued on the exercises then we added standing hip abductions, standing hip hikes, standing leg raises. I thought to myself are you kidding me you want me to do that. It wasn't so bad and I did them today because my PTA only comes 3 days a week. I must say I am getting quite good. I also am working on walking correctly. I haven't walked correctly in about 2 years so we are working on that. It was confusing at first but I think I made the breakthrough on that one tonight. So tomorrow Lisa returns and we will see what the day has in store. It should be fun, we will see what she wants me to do this time. I'll update soon. Have a great day.

You mean I am not that fragile

So I had my first visit from my physical therapist today and she helped me do all kinds of stuff. After the therapy I came away with the realization that maybe I am not as fragile as I once thought. Lisa my therapist had me do buttock squeezes, which let me tell you I am pro at those, then heel slides, then quad squeezes, and leg rollouts. She also had me do hip abduction. Who knew you were supposed to get your leg out that far. Oh my goodness, I thought I was going to die. Well not really but I thought you want me to do that in the middle of the abductions. Then she had me get up. Until now I have had my mom help me get up. The therapist had me sit up on my bed by myself. It worked and I was shocked I could do that. It gave me hope that one of these days I am going to be better, up until now I had wondered several times if it was going to get better. Let me say my friends I am doing better by the day and I am going to recover. I am almost to the point where I am ready to say the infamous line "I wish I would have had this done sooner". Keep praying and I'll keep updating. More fun therapy stories to come.

Rehab or Physical Therapy as I like to call it.

I hope you guys are doing well. I am getting stronger by the day and getting more used to my new hip every time I use it. Not only is my hip beginning to feel stronger but also I am beginning to get stronger physically. The past few days I have spent several hours up out of bed as opposed to short 30 minute times out of bed. I have started physical therapy and my mom is currently helping me. I am doing hip abduction, heel slides, hip rollouts, quad squeezes and buttock squeezes. They are fun. I am doing 15 reps 2x's a day.

My mom has decorated my house for Christmas. It is pretty fun. We are doing pretty well. I have had several visitors and tomorrow I get to go to the doctor and get my staples out. I hear you feel some better once the staples are removed. I hope so.

I'M BACK

Ok so all those people who told me great stories about hip replacement left out a few critical details. Like how hard the first few weeks of recovery are. I am getting better by the day but it has been very very hard. It is just hard when you can't get out of bed or off a chair on your own. I thought it was going to be so much easier than it has been but we are making it.

Surgery went well. Here is what I remember, they put me to sleep, I think I remember them transferring me to the operating table then waking up and telling them I was in a lot of pain. That is where the fun began. They put me on a morphine pump but that was bad news. I got extremely, extremely sick and had a real rough day. They switched me over to hydrocodone which seems to be doing the trick. The Next day they got me out of bed and I began the tough recovery process. On monday they sent me on my way to recover at home. I got motion sick on the way home but I am feeling much better, walking more, and figuring out the whole getting out of bed thing.

Keep praying and I will keep updating. I am getting ready to eat lunch. Thanks for all the prayers and support.

See you in January!! (not you my faithful blog readers-read on to find out who)

So today was my last day at school for the rest of the semester. As my kiddos leave I usually tell them to have a great day and that I will see in them tomorrow. However today I had to say have a great day and I will see you in January. It was kind of hard. As much as I am looking forward to a little break from work I love my job and love seeing my kiddos everyday. I assured them that I wasn't going to be off partying while they were working hard and the thing that would make me feel the best would be for us to all score extremely well on our semester test and beat the other Algebra 2 teachers. We will see how that works.

I might possibly have the greatest co-workers on earth. Today they threw me a good luck party. I was slightly teary eyed but it worked out ok. They have officially made my mascot hippie the hippo. That's right they made my new mascot a hippo should I be offended. Just kidding it made me feel really really special that so many people were concerned and cared for me. It was fun times. At that party I heard about a million more hip, knee, shoulder, and other replacement stories. I found out things about people that I never knew. It was kind of crazy. It never ceases to amaze me how many people have a hip replacement story (you know my dad, my aunt, my sister, my brother had hip replacement and it was the best thing that ever happened to them).

Well we are on the two day countdown. I am off work to relax, get rest, and get ready for the big day. My mom and dad are moving in tomorrow. My dad is going to be here off and on for the 6 weeks and my mom is here to stay.

Keep praying for me and I will update as soon as I can after surgery. I am expected to be in the hospital until about Monday so it will probably be at least middle of the week before I can update. Thanks for reading, caring, and praying.
